Cold to Last Decades

I read in the WSJ that temperatures in the upper MidWest are at arctic levels. Temperatures are -35F to -40F in the northern areas of North Dakota and Minnesota. Babblevision just reported that Chicago has 5F. So far this winter we've had an unusual number of overnight temperatures hitting 10F or lower.

The truly bad news is the pattern of below "normal" cold weather is expected to persist for two decades. Yes, I said two decades.

Why ?

The North Atlantic Oscillation has turned over. The pattern is now that of the cold years of the 1930s, 1940s and 1960s and early 1970s. See http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/NAO/ for a chart and explanation. Other sites can be found easily.

In the late 1960s, some climate scientists now bloviating about human-caused global warming were talking about the coming Ice Age. Those knowledgeable about World War II remembers so many reports of "the coldest winter in decades" occurring in WW II years, causing much suffering among troops.

So we should all get used to this pattern and be prepared for cold and bad weather for the coming years.

I suppose soon the climate change "scientists" will be screeching about man causing this. After all, they need grant money from the government and wild claims do work for generating grant money.

Markets

Nothing is happening. Obama Fund is about 100% long. I am waiting and will make selective adds as I see good buys.

Word of the Day

"Vaticination" - noun [$10]; "Vaticinate "- verb [$10[
Vaticination means 1. something foretold: prediction; 2. the act of prophesying.
Vaticinate means (transitive) to foretell, prophesy; (intransitive) to be a prophet.
Sentence: Modern man seems incapable to vaticinate natural events rationally or analysing such vaticinations about the natural world. He is the opposite of ancient man who always blamed actions of the gods. Modern man always blames action of mankind. That the universe and earth can change or are changing independent of man seems beyond his comprehension.

"Perpotation" - the act of drinking largely.

Sentence: In his youth, Bunkerman often enjoyed perpotation. He once drank an entire case of beer at one sitting.

    When Gerry McNamara was signed
Friday by the Reno Bighorns it wasn't because the former Syracuse guard was sitting on his couch waiting for a call. McNamara had spent the last three months at his home in Pennsylvania, working out nearly everyday, hoping that the right situation would come along.

That situation presented itself when the Bighorns brought him in a day before a three-game homestand.

McNamara hadn't seen 10 players on a court in quite some time. But the time off hasn't seemed to affect to his game much. He scored 12 points Tuesday in the Bighorns' 119-114 win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders in front of a crowd of 3,381 at the Reno Events Center.

The Bighorns, who are on a six-game win streak, beat the D-Fenders for the second time in three days.

"It's there," McNamara said of his game. "It's been three months since I've played 5-on-5 basketball so I've been extremely surprised. You can't really simulate 5-on-5 at home when you're working out. When you get on the court it's a little different and you get winded and I haven't been (winded). That's why I think it's going to be soon that I start playing good basketball because my wind is there, I just have to get familiar with the guys and get my game skills back in

    full."

McNamara, who hadn't played competitively since being in the Utah Jazz's training camp in October, shot 3-for-6 from 3-point range. But it was his defense and not getting other players involved that bothered him the most.

He had just one assist on two turnovers.

"They brought me in for that (three-point shooting), but they brought me into be a point guard as well." McNamara said. "I'm a little disappointed because we let them come back in the third quarter and so in my mind I hit some shots in the first half, but I didn't do my job in the second half. I need to start pushing the ball and maybe throw in a couple drag screens in and get some assists because when I'm passing the ball and getting some people easy baskets is when I'm at my best."

cheese and gravy fry power baby!!!

Actually I think that if one feeds the birds a bit all year round, nore will nest in your area so you will have more birds all the time.

  33. is this creative destruction? as i fix the crib up and try to sell it, a contractor is doing some work here. he is very busy, fixing up homes in foreclosure. he showed me one five doors down. apparently the night before eviction it is all the rave to have a "foreclosure party". this includes a lot of alcohol, sledge hammers, and chain jaws. they literally destroy everything, inside.

i guess the banks deserve this becuase they shud have never lent to these types of clowns.

i seriously wonder, if this is gud or bad for economy? this behavior is keeping local contractors busy.

JPM in the am. i wonder if that goes to 0, like Citi is about to?
