Monday Morning Rambles

Futures are up small.
Corn is up. Soybeans, too.

Not much news. More later - I have to take Spikie to the groomer early today.

PS: Another guy saying, "we've gotten a year's worth of returns in five months." Such pessimism. Are there any really bulls out there except me?

PPS: And another guy saying the consumer is "spent up". Sheesh. At 4.5% unemployment rate, are these guys delusional or stupid?

P^3S: Barron's was thin gruel this weekend. Their roundtable of fund managers - what a waste of print. Just trying to "manufacture" some news.

P^4S: I saw that Pelosi is richer than the top three Republicans combined. Sheesh. She has no idea how the common man struggles to make a living. A limousine liberal wearing pearls ;-)

P^5S: I concede that Lyndon doesn't have a clue about that, either.

  1. The Pin Shoot was a disapointment. The guy running the event & I were the only people there. The weather was really fine, too. Maybe too fine. So I capped off a couple boxes of cartridges to restore my muscle memory & skill and called it a day.

  2. Maybe the other guys were busy lobbying their congressman to keep the Tiarht amendment. I wonder why the gun lobby is so interested in protecting rogue gun dealers and not the public. Nancy Pelosi is gonna try to repeal it. I hope she is successful.

  3. That's crap, Bud. The BATFE is the law enforcent agency with that data - are you saying they don't do a good job?

The trial lawyers just want to sue some guy because a criminal fools him. Bloomberg is already doing that. Government by trial lawyer & rogue judge - that's the liberal ideal of power.

I guess you don't believe in privacy, either. Those traces might pass thru several honest people whose names & safety get smeared.

  4. Does being rich disqualify you from takin up the case for the working poor? Pelosi's net worth irrelevant. What she does as speaker to help poor people is what is rlelvant. Of course the right wing will try to 'distract' from the real issues and launch personal attacks. It won't work.

  5. Roflmao ...'criminals fool him.' Bartenders get 'fooled' by underage drinkers with false id's all the time. These gun dealers are in it to make a buck....they don't care who they sell to. Are you saying all 100% of gun dealers are honest? That's impressive.

  6. She doesn't do anything to help the working poor. All she does is lobby for more bureaucrats. And give pork to help her husband's investments. She tried to let tuna canners keep wages of their workers down until she was caught. She's just a corrupt, DC-focussed member of the rich & powerful ruling class who have no idea what the working poor need or want.

  7. uh, Bud, did you know that all sales thru gun dealers include a check with the federal database of criminals?

I see you sidestepped the privacy issue. hehe.

  8. A case in point. Recent INS enforcement efforts caused some firms to have to actually TRY to hire American citizens or legal residents for some of those so-called jobs no American wanted. And lo & behold, with a some wage & benefit improvement, American citizens lined up to get hired. Many were blacks from poor areas. This is documented in numerous places. So that argument has been proven FALSE.

So is Nancy Pelosi doing ANYTHING to preserve those wage & job gains or the "working poor"? NO!

[btw, I favor much immigration, but not to serve as competition to the poor or help pad the profits of big business.]

What would you say if I told you that food supplies are at their lowest levels in 35 years, while the number of acres being planted for food grains is at its lowest level over the same period? It sounds to us like a great supply/demand relationship for higher agriculture prices.

geesh, rm, now using scotts stuff. i used to cold call with him in 94. last time i checked he was too poor to pay attention but that was in 2004. maybe hes rich now

The supply demand situation helps set up the weather plays, yes.

  14. ya sorry for copying so much i didnt realize till hitting the publish icon.

the last time i really got into with scott was october of 2000. nasdaq was near 4k. i was telling we were gonna get hammered. we got into a huge argument, he told me i was an idiot. he then preceeded to blow up his book into a paragraph.

we rarely spoke after that, until i left shields in 2003.

  20. Back from the bank ... again. Gee, some of my woods looks like a fox colony with so many holes in the ground ;-)

Maybe I'll plant daffodils in them this fall.

I think I'll hire Brink's next time. That was my weightlifting workout for the day ;-)

  21. not much of an options hang over this morning even after a huge three day bender to end the week...heck even mern would need a couple of advil and a nap today...bunkerman, just wait until you have to harvest profits in all that corn, hope you have a train that passes near the bunker so you can avoid hauling all those bags into town...lol

  22. I don't see what manhood has to do with firearms. Women need a pistol more than men do. It's the equalizer. The police take 10 minutes to get here (I timed them). With my dogs to slow the bad guys down, my wife can get her pistol & deal with them. She's taken classes & the local police complimented her on her skill. I could handle them with a knife or bat probably, but she needs a pistol. ;-)

Anti-gun nuts want women to be dependent on the male dominated society. ;-)

  23. True frosty. I have many freight car loads of corn lolol

fyi, a contract of 5,000 bushels is "roughly" the amount a covered hopper rail car carries.

  28. UTEK....mern why are you planning to hold it for a year or is that just your way of saying it is a long term investment? I took profits on 75% off your post, so thanks for that, but any company with ultra in the name tends to turn into an ultra pig and soon heads for bankruptcy, lol.

I will be taking off for a fishing trip so tuesday is it for me this week. I see the market taking a little break, making a higher low before attempting to rock record highs into the end of the quarter and hence I have sold the rest of that market postion from last tuesday.

bub, no the trailer is out and I will be cleaning and stocking a little food and tons of beer this afternoon. the boat is already at the coast waiting and my redneck buddies are gathering as we speak. sure wish you could make the trip, never have enough chum...lol

    ReplyDelete

  32. I'm gonna buy an iPhone. I have an old crappy cellphone I carry for emergencies & no iPod. So I can get two devices as one. I'll be able to listen to Glenn Miller or Frank Sinatra on the iPhone - at least getting some use out of a device I need to carry anyway. An easy choice for me.
