Laughable

The Nobel committee continues to show its political and ideological biases. This morning I truly did, "laugh out loud" when I heard it awarded the Peace Prize to Obama. I thought, "for what ?" Then I heard the committee head speak on Blabberg and he said, in essence, for talking, for saying "words" that all want to hear. Europe loves Obama's smooching them and saying they he respects them now ... and will in the morning.

The Nobel committee is just being ridiculous and looks foolish; giving a purportedly prestigious prize for talking, not doing; ignoring people actually working and doing something for peace; and giving prizes for worthless talk. Lol - laughing out loud - yup, that's me.

Oh well, maybe they felt they had to make up for the Olympic committee's decision to brush aside Obama's lobbying for the Games in 2016. By the way, the track record of that prize committee is pretty bad as a predictor of future performance; it's really contrarian. I suppose that's bad news for true peace.

Actions

Je ne fais rien ... ich machte nichts ... nic nie robiÄ™ ... estoy haciendo nada ... non faccio nulla ... nihil facio ... I am doing nothing.

Oddly enough, while reading the news I felt the tone of the news was changing this morning from that endless crisis blather to a more normal, general tone.

Word of the Day

"Proscenium" - noun [$10]; a Mencken word
Proscenium means the part of the stage in front of the drop or curtain, usually with the enclosing arch.
Sentence: Obama can step onto the world's proscenium today to receive for more accolades for his "performance" from his enthralled European groupies.

Bman what is the root of your animus ($10) towards goldmansachs ??

did you interview there and get rejected ??? or were you not able to even get an interview there ??? or worse...........did 1 of your arch-enemies (classmates) from beefer university get a job there ? which made you bitter and jealous

'guttin their own beefer'

Bunkerman said...

The root of my animus is simple analysys of how they make their money now. The old GS had a very, very good investment banking operation that gave high quality service. I respected that.

It evolved into a trading operation. Now they make most of their money simply at the expense of their clients. That is inarguable. IF they had ethics, they would separate into two firms: a pure brokerage-investment bank and a hedge fund. But since they don't, I conclude they use the information from the investment banking side and brokerage to benfit their trading. That is simply unethical and should be illegal.

GS smells, and when there's smell, there's rot.

look, the dollar is stil above the recent lows vs both the euro and the pound.

This move is a correction of overvalued Asian currencies - countries who for decades kept thier currencies undervalued to promote exports.

You are letting a phony "dollar" index delude you into thinking somethingn else is happening.

I'll read Malpas, etc. tomorrow moring wiht my coffee - the time I read all the paper newspapers.

it seems to me that there are plenty of decent % intraday trades in eminis simply by the clock.

the 10 AM selling on strong openings.

the lunch dips on up days.

I just notioe the moves, I don't trade them as I don't want to sit in front of my screens.

OK, I read that Malpas article. Crappy, pop economics babble. And its self contradictory at some points, at others simply wrong.

a pos.

Bud said...

hmmmmmm............Bman didn't my questions regarding his animousity towards goldman

that's ok Bman.............they didn't hire you..........their loss

Bud said...

'a pos'

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

uhhh Bman.............i believe malpas a fellow crimson alumn............graduate of beefer university

Bud said...

malpas rejects the argument that a falling dollar will spur job growth in the US

well.......he only has the facts on his side.............dollar down 12% since obama took over.............and we shedding jobs every month

Bunkerman said...

for example, he says that people who borrowed bigtime got rich from 2003 to 2007. Sure, and it they didn't sell everythig at the right time, they are now broke from the panic.

He writes about the Feds holdings of short term debt, but then gripes about the Feds market risk in long term debt. Sheesh, and to get rid of that Fed ST debt now would raise interest rates to the moon.

That sure would be great for the economy.

Lololol he writes about a "strong jobs and wealth program" then wants spending restraint. Any specificcs. Nope.

That article is just boob bait for the booboisie.

The 'weak" dollar is not a policy, it just carried along for the ride. A side-effect.

And with the US being so wealthy already (vs. rest of world), OF COURSE it will grow less fast. That's the law of diminishing returns. Or maybe Malpas doesn't remember that from economics 101.

sheesh, what pap.

Bunkerman said...

Bud, I explained why I don't like GS now.

Bunkerman said...

no need to go "ad hominem"

I did interview at GS, but at the time, they didn't want quants. that came later.

Bunkerman said...

You confuse "cause" and "effect"

one raason the dollar is lower vs. Asian currencies be BECAUSE the economy is weak.

Dollar is an effect, not a cause.
