Holiday Weekend

I'm thinking about having a barbeque on Monday to celebrate Memorial Day, and inviting over a neighbor who is a World War II veteran.

Menu: steaks, baked beans, garlic bread, salad, beer.

I need to clean my fine electric grill for the summer, and make the beans in advance. My bean recipe is quite famous among my friends here. They are best made a day or two early. Then all those tasty molecules have a chance to combine into even more tastier varieties with one cycle of cooling and re-heating. See, chemistry can be fun !

I might even go to the shotgun range this weekend for a bit of trapshooting fun.

Inflation

Blabberg actually has an long interview this morning with a European economist about "inflation" ... he agrees with me and explains the facts. Mirabile Dictu !

Markets

Doldrums coming. I am doing nothing, except taking money from my Alpha Fund to pay my taxes for June 15, pay for my Rome vacation and for my barn renovation. I had put a lot of money into it to buy stocks in the big drops of Q1 and sold lots of those on rips. Alpha Fund was far too big for my risk level ... hehe ... as a "retired" investor. So cutting back for now makes sense.

Krypto Fund seems balanced OK with its overweight allocations to stocks and underweight allocations to cash and TIPs. Real estate and gold are at their normal allocations.

Some Arithmetic

At $4/gallon of gas and driving an SUV getting 20 miles per gallon, the cost per mile is 20 cents.

For a small car getting 40 mpg, the cost is a dime - 10 cents per mile.

So an upper middle class Yuppie family living in exurbia, and having to drive their SUV 20 miles every shopping trip, pays $4 per trip. That adds up. If they spend $100 on the trip, their cost is 4% more just for the transportation.

Now an X-er living in an older suburb, driving a 40 mpg compact and having a 10 mile round trip to shop, pays only $1.

These numbers really add up over a year and will certainly affect choices over time.

Word of the Day

"Jizz" - noun [$10]
Jizz means the characteristic (immediate) impression given by an animal or plant.
Sentence (1): A cardinal's jizz must be its bright red plumage and dignified demeanor.
Sentence (2): Unfortunately, W's jizz as a boob turned out to be correct.

Note: This definition is from The Oxford Concise Dictionary and is the only meaning given in it. I see now that the Urban Dictionary on the Internet has another slang usage derived from the "essence" of this meaning.

good guess, Bud, but a bit high: $2500 when I bought it, plus electrician to install high amp outdoor plug.

gas grills are much cheaper.

But I obey Mrs. B.

OMGROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!

Travelers taking to the road this Memorial Day weekend face soaring costs as prices at the pump maintain their record run. The surge in prices is keeping some drivers home. CNNMoney.com reports that for the first time since 2002, Americans plan to drive less on Memorial Day weekend than they did the year before, according to AAA

that stagflation?

its here, i can not even see y it is debated. however wud agree the way out of this mess is not higher rates. elmer fucked us proper, and ben better be easy becuase the credit crisis is something they can do affect. with respect to SKYROCKETING fuel and food costs that are making the middle class vanish like a virgin on prom nite, those people r mired in stagflation. two things need to happen to fix that. 1 (this will never happen) DC needs to pull thier heads out of their asses and start listening to guys like boone pickens. 2 (this will never happen) the non elite need to evolve.(problem here is less and less of the middle class believes in evolution). they need to chuck the sense of entitlement to the curb and down size thier lives, as bman suggests. from the 80's on everyone has been raised to "SUPER SIZE IT". well know it is time to down sise it. i made the proper adjustments in 2000. most people my age r as fiscally responsible as our current president.

and once again we have 3 people left, and none have the proper qualifications for helping DC to pull its head out of its ass.

maybe that job should pay 500 mil a yr?????????????

To Define Inflation, it’s Vital to Understand How the Fraudulent Federal Reserve’s Role in Devaluing Your Dollars.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we’re going to define inflation in a non-traditional way.

What I mean by that is there are lots of theories running around about what inflation is, what causes it, etc.

However, those theories generally miss the real cause behind the problem because the people putting these ideas out there:

either have no idea of the Federal Reserve fraud, or,
they’re paid by Federal Reserve ownership to keep Americans off the correct path
(Read an account of how the Federal Reserve owns the news media, which has been granted the power to influence what you think!)

DEFINE INFLATION AS A HIDDEN TAX
As we define inflation, understand that it equates to a hidden tax.

It’s often said that inflation is the consistent rise in the cost of goods and services. However, it’s more accurate to say that inflation is the weakening of the purchasing power of the dollar. As your dollars are worth less as more and more money hits the economy, you’re hit with this hidden tax because your purchasing power is being eroded.

This hidden tax is brought upon you by the illegal activities about the Federal Reserve. Since childhood, you were taught by the Freemason education system conspiracy, as well as the “bought off” news media that the Federal Reserve System is a government organization.

You’ve been lied to. As you follow the links provided here, your realize that the Federal Reserve is a fraud.

Ill be playing for $15 today.....checkout this review...ROFLMAO

This course has potential it's a shame the owners could careless about it and are too busy spending their time at CC of Scranton. In the beginning of the season the course isn't a bad play and can offer a fun round of cheap golf. The front 9 is the more difficult of the two 9's but rather boring IMO. Hole #2, #5 and #8 aren't bad but the others are pretty unimaginitive with #9 being one of the worst holes ever created. It's a dogleg right and the fairway slopes severely to the left and in the summer you can't hold the fairways and often times the ball will roll into a pond. The back 9 is a lot more enjoyably IMO but rather short. However #10 is once again one of the worst designed holes ever thought up. It's a 520 yard par 5 uphill but has the same pond that borders 9 200-215 yards out and if you try to carry the pond you're ball will ultimately run into a rock bed 10 yards beyond the creek. After #10 the back if has some fun holes, 11 is scnenic little par 3, 12 and 13 are fun risk/reward par 4's if you decide to cut the doglegs. I haven't played here in a couple years and based on previous reviews nothing much changed. I would recommand Pine Hills and Emanon over SHGC if you're in the immediate area for the same price.
