Another Blank Wednesday

As usual for Wednesdays, nothing is happening. I await in hope for a double cratering of ObamaCare and Copenhagen. In both cases the ruling classes are frantically trying to hide the lies and sheer bunco scams in those efforts in order to slip something through as a "start" to get more power for themselves over the common man.

Actions

My speculative urges are rather tepid at these prices in the markets. Lots of buying power is being consumed for small gains. The resistance seems rather strong here. Good news produces few new buyers. Again, on a pop higher, I'll try to find short sale plays. And on a serious dip, I'll do some speculative buying. Otherwise, I'll enjoy the holidays.

Languages

Polish verbs aren't as hard as I had first thought. German word order is still a big problem. Italian is a joy; I've upgraded my efforts there. French listening and speaking skill is rapidly improving now. Spanish is still at the back of the bus - I just don't enjoy it much. Latin progress is rapid, too; I really like these pithy quotations in Latin from antiquity.

Word of the Day

"Hyperesthesia" - noun [$10]; a Mencken word
Hyperesthesia means an excessive physical sensibility, esp. of the skin.
Sentence: Many [Most ?] Americans have a mental hyperesthesia towards arbitrary or unexplained commands and orders. Whether this is passed through the generations as a cultural meme, or is some deep genetic difference in behavior, is unknown. But it's there, no doubt.

Why would anyone buy into an IPO from a private equity firm ?

They do next to nothing operationally, leverage them up and pay themselves a big dividend. Ridiculous.

Bud said...

Bman how much does a used colt45 pistol go for these days ??

the ones the cowboys from the old west used

Bunkerman said...

I think a broader, stronger Glass Steagal makes a lot of sense.

Why are big "banks" really mostly trading houses ?

All this unification has pushed a lot of risks onto the currency and monetary system, as became obvious in 2008.

I was against repeal of Glass-Steagal from the beginnning.

Cheer on the Cyclones in the 2009 Insight Bowl!
The Iowa State football team is going bowling! The Cyclones (6-6) have accepted an invitation to play Minnesota in the 2009 Insight Bowl, Dec. 31 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. It marks ISU's first bowl game since 2005. "The trip is a reward to our players, who did what many people felt they couldn't do," ISU head coach Paul Rhoads said. "It is also a reward for our fans, whose tremendous turnout in Arizona in 2000 paved the way for this return trip. I was on the other sideline (Pitt) when Iowa State played in the 2000 game and remember the roar from Cyclone fans when Iowa State took the field. The Insight Bowl is first-class in every respect, and we look forward to a great game and a great trip for our fans." The ISU Alumni Association is offering a travel package for fans, but the plane has already sold out. However, if 120 fans make waiting-list reservations by noon today, a second plane will be sent. "We are not surprised that Iowa State fans responded so overwhelmingly to this opportunity to support the Cyclones in their bowl game," ISU Alumni Association president Jeff Johnson said. "We look forward to sharing the experience of a return trip to the Insight Bowl with them." In addition to the fan charter, the ISUAA will be partnering with the ISU athletics department to host a spirit rally on Dec. 30 and a pregame tailgate event Dec. 31. More details on these events will be posted at http://www.isualum.org/bowl09 as they become available.

If you would like to sign up for the charter trip, please visit our Web site to get more information and call (800) 409-3493 or (877) 478-2586 by noon today. If a second charter plane is sent, you will be notified and your credit card will be charged this afternoon.

there are good quality replicas of the ones from the old west for a couple hundred, I think - they are made in Italy and sold under various names.

Better ones for heavier use are about $4-500, I think {Ruger makes good ones).

Ruger Vacquero is like the old Colt Single Action Army. The Ruger Bisley is bigger.

You can alao get good holsters like in the old west, too.

Gun shows are pretty competitive places; one can usually bargain prices down a bit.

NOTE: I bought mine quite a few years ago, so my price quotes might be off.

maverick said...

goog morning Bman....I see Pelosi worthy of accolades

Bunkerman said...

in 1994 I bought a new Ruger Vacquer for $325.

in 1993 I bought a new American Arms (Italian made replica) Single Action Army for $275.

Bunkerman said...

used guns are usually at least 30% or more lower than new prices.

maverick said...

also bunker boys....please tell me how a guy that does not make first team all american ....gets a free ride to NYC...wtf

Bunkerman said...

Pelosi ... ugh ... poster girl for the ruling class

Bman...do you have any .50 caliber pistols?

Bud said...

cael sanderson?? who's that ??

oh the wrestler..........undefeated at iowa state................but you know what ?? he still a fag...............cuz ya'know.............the underwear and the grabbing

Bunkerman said...

no .50 cal pistols.

.44 magnum is plenty of power; or .45 long colt.

imho, a .50 cal pistol is pointlessly hard to shoot.

A shorty rifle shooting .45 govt. is a better trade-off.

Bunkerman said...

lol, I do have a derringer shooting .410 shotgun.

I load it with a special cartidge with three 000 buck balls.

mega kick.

Gotta aim at the nuts to hit the chest at 7 ft.

Bman are you a fan of the sigsauer p226 ?? is is good for a beginner ??

what would be an appropriate price for used ?

Bunkerman said...

I've never bought or fired a sigsauer. I've heard good things in general. No idea re price.

Unless you're going to practice a lot, get a revolver of reasonable calibre.

Bunkerman said...

used stainless steel S&W K frames are good - in .38 S&W. They'll do the job & are OK to shoot for fun.

Bud said...

nahhhhh...thats too easy...ill pass

Bunkerman said...

uh ... IF you get a semi-auto, don't "limp" wrist it when you fire it. That causes jams.

And keep your thumbs out of the way of the slide when it recoils.

and wear ear & eye protectino.

Those ejected cases can (very rarely) come back & hit you in the face - bad for eyes if not protected.

Frosty said...

Mike...get Sal one of those tuxcedo t-shirts with "i'll do it over and over" printed on the back for xmas...he needs something to wear to the new year's party down at the oyster.

Bunkerman said...

and take a class on the law, or you'll end up in jail. It's not like the TV or movies .. as someone we know found out.

my friend who is takin me also told me to wear long sleeves.............he said sometime the debris ( or whatever u call it) falls back on your arm and burns......true ?

Frosty said...

Bunk nonono long sleeves...nonoo shirt at all...."I would destroy u Vladimir Putin"

Bunkerman said...

no, unless a casing gets stuck somehow - like falling inside a shirt sleeve cuff.

I once had a rifle casing fall inside a sleeve and get stuck next to skin - ouch !

shorts sleeves are fine.

Bunkerman said...

the casings are hot, but just tumble off - no real pain. They susualy don't come back anyway.

Don't pick them up right away - let them cool

Bud said...
