Philistine means (usu.) a person who is hostile or indifferent to culture, or one whose interests or tastes are commonplace or material.
Sentence: The world of modern art seems dominated by Philistines whose primary concern is for how much they can re-sell 'art" they buy. Intrinsic meaning counts for nothing; only the money matters.

I agree 100% Bunk....I would never sell my "Dogs playing" poker or velvet Elvis...for me...it's about the art...lol
Did you see the article about how some "artists" hire people in India at $20/hour to do paintings in their name and sell them in galleries for five figures.
I guess that's a bit like Obama having Bill Ayres write a book and put Obama's name on it, so Obama can collect millions.
I think that "art" game is all about either (a) a tax scam in getting markups on "gifts", or (b) re-selling the "art" the the next greater fool, who them gets a big tax write-off for a "gift".
