Alpha Fund

At the request of a reader, below are ALL my Alpha Fund holdings as of now.

India & India related: CTSH, HDB, IBN, IFOX, IGTE, INFY, MTE, PTI, RDY, REDF, SAPE, SAY, SIFY, SYNT, TTM, VSL, WIT. Largest are HDB and IBN, about equal. Smallest is PTI. India & India related are about 17% of the Alpha Fund.

Oil & gas: XOM, CVX, COP, MRO, DVN, CHK, SU, HES.
Deep water drillers: GSF, RIG, DO, NE
Other energy-related: BTU, VLO, NOV

The above three categories represent 51% of the Alpha Fund. The largest position is CVX, followed closely by DVN, COP, XOM, MRO. Hmmm. CVX is the largest overall position, too. I thought AAPL was. They're close.

Miners: BHP, FCX, PCU, CCJ, RIO, RTP, CLF. Miners are 16% of the Alpha Fund. Largest position is BHP.

Select Tech: AAPL, GOOG, ORCL. Tech is 13% of the Alpha Fund. AAPL is the largest position.

Miscellaneous: EDU, AMSC, PTN. This is only 1.5 % of the Alpha Fund.

I have losses on PTN (-30%) and SIFY (-14%). The largest gain is +149% on AMSC; second biggest is EDU at +139%. Other 100% gainers are PCU and CLF. AAPL would be over 100%, but I traded around it with calls some, and flipped & re-bought some shares lower. AAPL is +91% on my existing stock.

I don't have any idea if any of these are good entries now. I haven't checked their charts in awhile, as I follow the main fundamental story, viz., that oils & miners will lead until China says to stop.

I posted all these earlier this year and my general ideas, too. I also posted most of these stocks & the thinking in a chat room last fall and earlier.

I also posted that about 80% of my investments are in managed in my Krypto Fund. The other 20% are the Alpha Fund. About 5% in Commodities. [Yes, I know that's 105% - so renormalize them. The ratio is 16:4:1. I think of them as stated.] I can take risks in these since my Krypto Fund is very widely diversified and I consider it "safe". My long term objectives are about 10% per year on the Krypto Fund and +30%/yr in the Alpha Fund, +50%/yr in Commodities.

i cant wait to see his new plan for iraq in sept. they r saying a pull out of bagdad is likely, while they bring some home and the rest chase bin laden, in iraq.

atta boy, dubya. mission accomplished!

nibbled some CHK. oversold, on 9 and 50 day. getting hotter on east coast, and we still no where near the sweat spot for hurrincanes. august through mid oct.

if rents appreciated as much as some article i read last week suggest, plus the slide in natural gas cud give a big boast to "core" cpi. thats a double whammy. natural gas down, rents up. but i believe the articles main pt was commercial rents were skyrocketing not residential

Bunkerman said...

Commercial rents are way up in the core cities.

dont think commercial rents matter to the CPI calculation. will take a peak.

still thinking the country, unfortunately needs to adopt a policy similar to israel.

in 89, i had to register for a draft, if there was one. i dont think they even do that anymore.
so since i didnt walk this walk (becuase there was no need, its tuff to suggest), but a mandatory 2 yrs military service after hs graduation or turning 18 (if u dropped out) mite serve 2 purposes.

first, if we really wanna (still) be the world police, we need many many many more soldiers. we had 500k in vietnam and that wasnt enuff. iraq is a tougher battle, and we have like 120k over there.

second, (and in hindsight i may have benefitted from this. instead of partying like a rock star the last two yrs of hs, and then made that look puppy piss in college) get some more discipline with kids today. just this weekend an 11 yr old girl got a DUI after leading cops on a multi mile police chase.

gores kid (cant blame him, look at his dad) self medicating like a freak. andy reids kids.

seems to work in israel.

that sweet sweet CHEEBAH!

:-)

going back to your formula. did the like of judy garland write thier own music, or someone write it for them. if they dont write a majority of what they played, id take points away. u have to write most of your own tunes, imo

Bunkerman said...

Dead sure beats Power Lunch babble, by a country mile :-)

82 is just jerry and a bass player, at some jail, in oregon. i love that set!

there is a filler at the end, from red rocks 2003, i was there!

saw god that nite!!! 7/6/03

Bunkerman said...

Judy Garland sang songs only - written by the best composres and lyricists.

I disagree - I think much of the mediocrity in modern music comes from the public infatuation with performers who write there own stuff.

Bing Crosby sang songs of Irving Berlin and others. Combining two great talents gives superior music to one guy with above average in both abilities.

Frosty said...

ROSE a nice test of that new uptick rule....pound it down, then pound it some more...testing a thesis I have...a break down may stretch futher to the down side with the new rules.

Bud said...

Roflmaoooo....judy garland. I prefer julie andrews.

Bunkerman said...

I do too, Bud. I think Julie Andrews is the best female singer for the 20th century. But Judy Garland is certainly in the top 5 - maybe #2.

I listened to many hours of Julie Andrews driving home from Ohio.

My favorite is a lesser known song: Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The words are so good, realizing they are for a scene set in 1920. Of course her singing is perfect. :-)

Bunkerman said...

Mary Poppins is a great movie, too. :-)

Frosty said...

speaking of singers and songs....hildog theme, you and I...please, her and wild willy feel your pain....someone else in her party must have already layed claim to american idiot by green day.

mern said...

in my formula, the boyz get extra points becuase they wrote thier songs. as bob wier said in a recent interview about playing jerry tunes.

something like. "well who else shud perform them? i was there when the songs were born and ive watched then evolve for over 40 yrs in some cases. those songs r my children and watching them grow as been a special part of my life"

phil bought out a DVD last yr from some cali shows in late 2005. joan osborne was lead singer. ive gotta get that cd becuase its with scofield, who can shred the guitar. i really like that linuep lesh, osborne, molo, barraco, scoffield and campbell. sless played within that group when scofield wasnt available. sless is gud, scoffield is sick!

joan also sings on the red rocks shows. that was sooo fun. 5 nites at red rocks, every nite in first 10 rows. r car never left the parking lot that whole week. we were so dosed up after everyshow we wud walk down the mtn, and take a cab back to my friends pad. except for the nite at chief hosa. that was the most insane camp site i ever saw. 3 people died in just that week. it was closed shortly after. that was the nite we mixed CB2 with the lsd. OMG, if u goog CB2, u reading about feeling a "cartooning effect". ill say, i actually felt like i was in a bugs bunny cartoon for about 12 hours. in the end i was afraid to close my eyes and sleep, fearing i wud never wake up. so my friend slept and said keep and eye on me and make sure i dont stop breathing.

i dont know how he slept becuase he was doing cocaine all nite too, were as i wasnt. just smoked weed and about 100 ballons of laffing gas to go with the lsd and cb2.

that was one crazy nite

Great! Bud not only supporting nutso Pelosi but also Vick the dog killer!! damn!!!!

Bud said...

Dog killer? Wow maverick...........you really are alot more naive than i thought. You believe everything you read in the papers? We live in a racist bigoted country....and young black men have been accused and convicted of crimes they never committed for centuries. Don't know which school you went to but they obviously did a very poor job of educating you. But that's ok.........that's why I am here.

Bud said...

I luv that song frosty!! You and I........Lmaoooooooooooooooo

mern said...

vick deserves an apology about as much as OJ.

ya im sure he had no idea what was going on at his property, just like ken lay didnt know what was going on at Enron. or like barry bonds had no idea what he was putting into 100 million dollar body.

they all like tony mantana "me, i always tell the truth.........even when i lie......... so say gud nite to the bad guy!" LOL

Bunkerman said...

Writers get points for writers, singers for singers. No extra points for doing both, except personlly. It doesn't make the recorded song any better. QED.

mern said...

no one gets slammed in this country than white men, bud. u have no idea the advantages u have becuase u arent white!

usa-uruguay u-20 world cup, round of 16, wed night....freddy adu best u-20 in the world...needs to get out of mls immediately and get to europe...

mern said...

that goes back to the passion part, bunkerman. like when u see bob sing "victim or the crime" these days. u can see in his eyes he is clearly thinking about jerry. was jerry the victim or the crime? who knows better than bobby? maybe thats what they were writting about to begin with (barlow and wier). they tried and tried to clean jerry up. even once the mates were like "fine we will break up the band if u dont clean up" jerry was like, ok, fine, ill just tour with the jerry band make as much money as know and u guys can starve. so they gave up, and rode him till he checked out.

i suppose if u sing a song enuff it can become yours, as long as u help it evolve from its original cut.

maverick said...

Nice sermon Bud, I am sure the Rev Jesse would be proud. He will prolly weigh in soon also.

mern said...

adu looked amazing on friday, against brazil. that was a great match! after giving up that goal in the 65 minute i thought brazil wud take, but the USA came right back and scored in the 80th minute. maybe we get a world cup before i die.

im telling u bud, being white isnt all its cracked up to be

LOL

mern said...

i thought adu already plays in europe? he left the mls like 2 yrs ago, i believe

mern said...

the under 20's play with great touch. they have better skillz than team usa. just gotta a bit bigger and faster and we r there.

Adu really was impressive friday, especially setting up that last goal

mern said...

u right mike, real salt lake. what a joke. agree he shud be in europe practicing head butts and hacking

Bud said...

Maverick lives in Northcarolina. So it's not really his fault. That's a state with a proud history and tradition of lynching black men. Before there was college hoops, castrating blacks was the most popular sport among young white males in that state.

Bud said...

Who is mike?

Bunkerman said...

A recording is a recording. No points for passion unless it affects the quality of the singing.

man i wish i was your shade of brown for this trip to paris. id be a lot less worried.

LOL, bud, u r too easy to get fired up.

:-)

maverick said...

LOL bud, you live below me now...don't upset the neighbors

mern said...

i prefer live music to studio stuff, as u can tell. especially with the boyz. clearly there was a circle. the band fed off r energy and we wud feed off thiers.

bradford marsilis was taking about playing with the dead. said something like, well jazz fans sux. the further u moved away from what was familiar u cud here the rumbles in the crowd, but when i played with the dead, the crazier i got, the crazier the fans got. they were ripping thier shirts off and spinning frantically. i tell ya, man, i was in a happy place when we did that 7 beat reggae tune (esitmated prophet, of course)

Bunkerman said...

I'm sure Julie Andrews live was great in the 1960s. I actually saw her live in Victor Victoria in the 1990s, I think, on Broadway. Fantastic voice.

But live performances include an acting component that is NOT part of the quality of a recording. SO I don't think they are perfectly comparable.

Bud said...

Lol frosty....I'm here for entertainment purposes only ( besides schoolong maverick).

Bunkerman.............i'd rather let you use my head for target practice at the range than listen to julie andrews.

mern said...

definetly not comparable. GD stuff never captured the magic of thier live performances. the studio just served as the birth site of the song. from thier it wud take on its own spirit and evolve each time played live. it had to evolve becuase they wud play 10 shows in a row without playing the same song twice. so u dont remember the way it went down 10 shows ago.

no acting at the shows either. it was live without a net, every nite. for better or worse and 92-95 a lot of that crap, was for the worse.

in 2001 caught 4 in a row at the beacon shortly after 911. george harrison passed the nite before the first show. phil dropped "tears of a clown" and "while my guitar gently weeps" the guy next to me was crying.

man im itching for shows, and none around.

maybe phil and bob hit florida this fall. phil appears to have recovered from his prostate cancer. he played this weekend at the sweetwater cafe in north cali. reviews look gud

mern said...

actually when brookstreet blew up, they had recently hired some reps from BKST that were involved with this cdo fallout. so compliance as been in a quagmire for weeks. and its not like they have the best rep on the street to begin with. thats why i want to work there. they r big, well funded, but plently of rogue brokers for me to pester.

im sure something crazy happened today, or they wud just call and say were r not interested a month ago.

its been two months since ive traded and getting bored here. im running 90 minutes a day.

i guess its my nite to fall off the wagon again. was gud this weekend, but i was really expecting that call today.

oh well, miller lite never lets me down! miller lite never says to call back later or send me your u4.

well i got to bud today, twice, at that gives me the warm fuzzies.

peace out

I noticed that some firms wait until they decide to hire a person before checking their references & college info, etc. So they might be doing that.

I'd suggest being "clean" untl after at least a week on the job. To be safe.

I'm a naturally paranoid ... uh cautious person ;-)
