Market Ramblings

I bought some corn - December 2007 - small position - one contract as a marker. Btw, that's what I mean by a "marker" position. It forces me to pay attention & let's me participate on a big move if one suddenly occurs (such as is possible in coffee). I don't expect that in corn, but I need a motivation to check the weather maps every day. And spring weather might be cold & wet to delay plantings. So a La Nina hot & dry summer "could" create a big problem for the corn crop, as much will be planted on marginal land.

S&P 500 cash shows a cup & handle bullish continuation pattern. Ditto the Nazz composite, Russell 2000 (aka "Rut") and the Dow Industrials; all had higher volume yesterday, a good sign.
I'm planning to "buy dips, sell rips" in index calls for trades, and find "month trades" in individual stocks, at least until the news flow changes.

PS: The Alpha Fund is about 150% long.

PPS: I spent some time on weather maps & forecasts this AM and I will try to add to that corn marker on a dip or otherwise. I think the farmers might have trouble getting all those acres planted [btw, planting in the south & border states are pretty far along vs. last year, though]. And the 90 day forecasts show hot & dry in much of the corn belt.

little humor this am

Keith Richards tells British music mag NME that, in addition to the various and sundry illegal drugs he has ingested, smoked, shot up or rubbed on, he once snorted his father - with a cocaine chaser.
"He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared," the 63-year-old Rolling Stone said.

i dont doubt that one bit. by the time that guys dies, there wont be any drugs left and we will have to snort his ashes to get off. ROFL!

Bank America cut their corn price estimates this morning. They also saying that cuts the costs for ethanol producers. VSE and ANDE are 2 stocks they like. Any others out there we should watch?

Lmaooooo..... Keith Richards. I love the guy..........a rock n' roll genius ! They sure don't make them like him anymore.

60 minutes had a very interesting ( and sobering ) segment on global warming this week. Did you know Bunkerman that the penguin population in Antarctica has fallen by 50%? If you truly are open-minded you may find the segment enlightening. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/30/60minutes/main2631210.shtml

some of jays fave indian names like CTSH INFY (reports the 13th) and WIT all looked to have small positive stochastic divgs.

Sorry, I don't follow ethanol stocks. I hate subsidized industries.

Hmm. Since Antarctica was "discovered" only about 100 years ago, I wonder how much past data they have on penguin populations?

And since the penguins feed in the sea, I wonder how much overfishing has to do with it? Or El Nino's?

Hmm. Aren't penguins birds? I wonder if bird flu or variants might have an impact.

Hmm. Since penguins seems to thrive in aquariums in moderate cliamtes I wonder why "global warming" gets the blame?

I wonder how some scientist can "blame" a temperature change for decline in Penguins? They just want grants & publicity.

Bud, check out this site ->
http://www.coolantarctica.com/Antarctica%20fact%20file/science/global_warming.htm

It's pretty balanced. Some penguins are leaving one area while others are moving in. Skeletal remains indicate variations have occurred before any postulated "man-made" effects.

60 Minutes can make one believe anything with their selective facts & editing.

am i reading anna nicole had 9 count em 9 presciption medications in her at the time of dirt nap?

including HGH and B12?

and when did methadone become an antipressent, rofl?

y r these drugs legal and the green not? oh thats right JNJ or MRK dont have a patent on the green. its amazing to me that the bible thumping right is so against the green but when they get too fat they have no problem shooting up some HGH (becuase the govt and the doc say its ok).

how did we get here? im pretty sure in the summer of 65 or 66, there was a chance we wud move towards the right tangent. but the bible thumpers ruined it, and its been getting worse since

bud who cares about global warming? we will nuke ourselves off the planet before the global warming matters.

Bunkerman why can't you just disagree with the scientists on their conclusions? Why do you have to question their ethics and motives ? Rofl....'selectivs facts and editing'. Did you watch or read it? Probably not. Kind of unfair to judge something without seeing it first. Of course I am gonna check out that site....I am very interested in the subject and unlike you I love hearing all sides of the debate.

Rofl Mern.......that probably gonna happen if we elect another trigger-happy Republican for President in 2008.

briefing is worth the money easily. got a ton of QQQQ on the iran headline and flipped into the cnbc push

Bunkerman said...

Why I question some of their ethics? Some of the global warming crowd actually admit on the record they spin scary scenarios to get grants & public support.

And grants and papers of people with facts contradicting their dogma get denied and rejected. Scientists are people at their core.

gonna try some USO short here as a mark, and at 1030 maybe really short if it bounces

mern said...

putting some INFY away, try to hold for the long term, at least a week

bunkerman, your MON looks very good today...nice call

Bunkerman said...

Thanks mfl59. I actually sold those spring calls when I got out of most non-oil/non-India stocks in mid-February per my post then (the stock was stock around 56 then). I figured the good news was known. Guess it has more to go.

fed doing a lot of "hoping" on the inflation issue. bolling saying gas, steel, milk, cheese all going higher, a lot higher.

still doesnt matter, maybe it never will, but the textbooks say high inflation with sub par growth, bad for stocks.

im very long, bad sign
