Monday Musings

I finished our taxes & wrote out the check to "United States Treasury" - ugh, it was the largest check I've ever written in my entire life. :-(( If the money was being used for something useful, like a new aircraft carrier or tanks or ammo for troops, I'd feel better. But it's probably going to crop subsidies for rich farmers, or to pay off some Congressman's supporters with pork. Grrrr.

I rebalanced the Krypto Fund a little, selling some US stocks & buying some real estate. I also added new money (an SEP-IRA contribution) to my TIPs position & Pacific index ETF (the tax benefit from the SEP-IRA; I invest that money - not spending it). That got me back into balance. :-)

Wolfowitz is obviously corrupt; get him out of there. If R's don't stand up on these "personal behavior" issues, they should apologize to Bill Clinton.

I guess the rich are backing Hillary bigtime - she has the most money raised.

No problem with flooding here - naturally my bunker is well-positioned on the side of a hill with good drainage and clear fields of fire ;-)

India was strong overnight. CSCO news Friday was good. I have several Internet-related tech in the Alpha Fund [GOOG, CSCO], and of course AAPL, ORCL, ADBE (will add to position soon). AAPL is a big position. I'm holding all these for longer term.

US stock index charts look good. I suspect many hedgies are underinvested.

PS: OK, I sent my "vote" to McCain. He's the only candidate willing to win the war. The rest want to run & let the bad guys hit us again. Hmm, and it looks like most "rich" aren't backing him. Maybe he's got some populist in him? I hope so. I don't like him on some issues, but the most important issue is winning the war, so I sent my "vote" to him.

PPS: Bought some DOW. I figure that sooner or later it gets bought out. The ascending triangle chart is interesting, too. I'll add at the 50 DMA or if it closes two days over 47.3.

PPPS: A couple days ago a reader posted some solar plays. These actually have numbers now. I bought starter positions in each at the time as they are volatile. I'll add over time & watch them. The stocks were FSLR, JASO, SPWR and TSL. If you bought off his post you've done well.

GM K man. i never mind writing big checks to the irs, its the little ones that make me mad.

saw 2 shorts GD and IBM.

shud be close to 100% cash before 9 lol

bud u get the cds and shirt

"Saint Stephen will remain,
all he lost he shall regain" (yes that 2nd cd is as gud as it gets)

discovered a new show bunkerman (over the weekend). "the riches" on fx tv 10pm mondays.

sopranos opener was better than i expected, after everyone bashed it.

caught up on some tv this weekend and watched scarface again. how did pacino not win an oscar for that. that was by far his best performance ive seen

LOL "R's don't stand up". Bunkerman hypocrisy is bipartisan. Always has been , always will be. That's why the American people never bought the phony outrage and impeachment the R's were selling. They knew just as many republicans cheat on their spouses as democrats.
Hmmmmmmmm. I sure would be worried about flooding if I lived in a bunker. Either it's at the bottom of a hill which can be under water in a moment. Or it's at the top of one in which case you are exposed to attack which defeats your purpose. I'm pretty sure your civil war fighting ancestors would be dissapointed with your bunker positioning.

mern said...

FMT all gone. had 5k at 7, got out near 8. that stock acted like something was up. left some money on the table but who cares?

Bunkerman said...

Uh Bud, a position just below the optical top of the hill is very well positioned.

No sillouette, and most fire goes over. A very difficult postion to hit. You need to read some military manuals or history. A historical example is the stone wall at Gettyburg on Cemetery Ridge. Most reb cannon fire went over and the Union center held, helping win the Civil War. ;-)

I lost power for a few minutes, but not long enough to start the generator.

Well done mern........i guess this means you gonna be talkin to your bong soon

Bunkerman said...

PS; my bunker is just below the top of the hill, needless to say, with good visibility or alarms on all approaches. Excellent drainage, too. :-))

Bud said...

Thanks for letting me know about your "defenses" Bunkerman. As you know if the end of civilization ever does occur in my lifetime, I will be launching an attack on your bunker for silver bars, ammo, food and other survial gear. I needed that crucial logistics info to plan my strategy.

Bunkerman said...

rofl, Bud. Your problem is that I'm constantly improving & updating them. In fact, I'm laying another new defensive line in a weeks hehe. ;-)

Bunkerman said...

Hmm, you might have a hard time vs. my armor with your, uh ... ball bat or what? ;-)

mern said...

lol. bud just getting your arbad custume ready and when and if they take over u can pretend u were on thier side the whole time.

practice today, goto boca. hit that mizer area and yell alalalalalalalalalalalalala into a crowd and see what happens

rofl

Bud said...

Nice try Bunkerman. But I'm not about to provide you with that crucial bit of 'intelligence' you need.

Bunkerman said...

roflmao ;-)

mern said...

that NNI worked very nicely too.

up almost 3% today. i shud quit

especially with CPI tom

mern said...

JTX another positive stoch divg, over the 9 day

mern said...

ugh i left a new car on the table between NNI and FMT

si said...

i sure do hope , you caught some of that solar plays from few days ago, they all have been multi point runners

Bunkerman said...

Yes, thanks Si. I bought a some of each you posted. Not huge, but in a size I can add to and hold awhile without too much anguish if they reverse if traders bail [ aka the virtual buyers ;-) ].

Bunkerman said...

I don't do much rapid fire trading now. I've cut my stress levels a lot as well as my work load.

mern said...

ive just watched those solar stocks while trading some WFR

i sux

bud u shooting up the V tech campus again or that marcus vick

geesh

Bunkerman said...

I mailed the taxes off :-(
Still raining here, I think the river will flood the road to town soon. I'm glad I have a multi-purpose vehicle that can ford rivers. :-)

Bunkerman said...

EDU keeps going. I think I'll hold Si's solar plays like I did that one. With actual earnings & the global warming BS taking off, those could keep going awhile if one can stomach the volatility. If they drop on the traders taking profits, I'll add.

mern said...

20 dead at v tech. sickening

Bud said...

What a tragedy at Va-tech. We all feel terible ....but Bunkerman... isn't it time the NRA supported tougher gun laws?

Bunkerman said...

Gun laws are pretty tough already if one isn't a criminal.

Bud said...

Mern is my tie-dye in the mail? or you gonna send it soon

Bud said...

Bunkerman you aroused my curiosity. Can you reccomend some basic military manuals......specifically about bunkers.

Bunkerman said...

I'll have to look in my barn for the manuals. I read them years ago. I think one can buy them online or on a CD now. Of course it takes some thought & imagination [& hard work] to put them into practice.

Bunkerman said...

Hmmmm. I wonder if you're trying to get me to disclose more defenses, Bud. ;-)

Bud said...

Lmaoooooooo bunkerman.......no I really wanted to read about your (and Frosty's) fascination with bunkers

Bunkerman said...

From memory, a start is FM 5-15, "Field Fortifications" [available online]

I've picked up many tidbits from much reading.

I'll have to look at my manual collection.

Bunkerman said...

There's good material in nuclear war survival tactics, too.

Bunkerman said...

One can learn interesting things from military manuals, like how to build igloos. ;-)

si said...

talk about bunkers, yesterday pbs was running a program on al-qaeda, ex CIA personnel was saying, how they are moving towards a nuclear attack inside US

Bunkerman said...

Hmmm. The storm is over & the sun's out. I might take a 4 mile walk with Mrs. B & the four doggies.

Bunkerman said...

Sounds like my bunker & prep work & survival gear & practice is looking smarter every day. Living in the woods, too.

si said...

another solar on scan today is SOLF, triple digit grower this year, but next year only 29% (seems kind of low compared to others in the group)

Bunkerman said...

Going on that 4 mile walk now. Good luck the rest of the day.

CPI number tomorrow will likely determine the next move. A big one.

someone gonna lose thier job at VT. after first murder school shud have shut down, no ifs ands or buts

mern said...

taking home nothing. im sure the bls cooked up a great cpi, and the beefers already saw it and thus the big rally, but ive seen too much anecdotal data that suggests we shud get a headline above .6 and core .2. but thats just florida maybe the rest of the country isnt seeing prices go straight up
