Monday Morning Rambles

Can someone explain this: Russia threatens Europe because some Europeans want to help defend Europe and the US against Iranian missiles & future nuclear blackmail from Iran. Sort of sounds like Russia wants a submissive & compliant Europe. Thinking ................

Paris Hilton goes to a special celebrity jail for 23 days for probation violation. The South Park parody of her was pretty accurate :-)

Check out Sunday's post regarding "Time Diversification" IIFF you have a pile of uninvested cash.

Bunker investing is working well:
Krypto Fund +6.58% ytd (passive, diversified index funds & gold);
Alpha Fund +36.3% ytd (selected stocks in certain sectors);
Commodities +35.6% ytd (more active, week/month trades).

The main driver of Bunker investing is lots of thinking and some reading. I do very little short term trading anymore as (a) the return for effort expended and (b) $ risk of bad trades seems out of whack when larger sums are deployed.

PS: I bought some August Lean Hogs. I remember that last August the heat was thought to have hurt breeding [ ;-) ]. Of course corn prices hurt feeding them, too. So this August there might be fewer hogs with less weight. The chart looks like a bottom, too.

PPS: I closed my soybean long - good one. I'll re-buy on a correction, if one happens.

P^3S: Natural gas is moving - those hot weather forecasts are working. I have August now (rolled my July contracts - btw, I trade the e-minis only). A close over 8.4 in July or August seems to be a break out of an ascending triangle. CHK stock working well, too.

P^4S: Coffee has moved a lot recently, on Brazilian price support program and freeze worries. Not adding yet. That bleeding marker position is green now, though. Coffee is a tough market. I hate losing a couple $K on those markers - was down about $2K on coffee for awhile. Sugar marker still red.

bud, ive always done well with the ladies. i dont know y. i follow a few basic rules, or used to. maybe they will improve your dating skills. 1, make em laff quickly. 2, ask em a few questions, shut up and pretend to listen. throw in a few "really thats so interesting, tell me more". go back to thinking about stocks, sports or sex. then just be sorta nice. its really not that hard. then u just have to be gud in the bedroom. cant help u there pal, but there is plenty of porn on the internet. thats how i keep up with all the new &latest moves and techniques. lol

Some talk on Bloomberg today of a rate hike. I believe fedfund futs showing 30% of rate hike today.

Bunkerman said...

Rate hike? lololol.
Those dirty eisegetors !!!

We have a weak economy and core inflation is moving into the Fed comfort zone. Speculation of a rate hike is garbage - no basis in reality.

Bunkerman........how did the rifle match go? You have not said a word...my guess you were defeated soundly.

Bunkerman said...

No, Bud. I had something come up and could not go. I was looking forward to crushing those guys again, darn. :-(

There's a pistol match in two weeks - I'll try to go to that one. But I'm not nearly as good with my .45 as with my rifle. I usually lose pistol matches. It's fun to participate even losing. For pistol matches, we shoot bowling pins at about 30 ft. for time. Winner is best time for 5 pins knocked off the table, max. 6 rounds in the magazine; reloads permitted. It's pretty tough, actually, to get a good time. The faster you fire, the more likely one will miss twice & be forced to reload. It's called a "pin shoot".

Bunkerman said...

My best times are about 7 seconds - good enough to win, but I'm inconsistent.

Bunkerman said...

Win at our club, that is. A really good pin shooter can do it in 3 seconds. I saw a famous pistol instructor do it in about 2.5 seconds once. And a shooting buddy of mine was a Master many years ago - he could do it that fast, too.

Bud said...

Ugh......pistol match. That is so disgusting. I just don't get the fascination with guns.

Bunkerman said...

Most people whom I've taken to try it have enjoyed shooting immensely. It requires a calm hand and good eye. Women tend to be better shooters than men, by the way.

Bunkerman said...

Uh, Bud, I believe your favorite Presidnent, Thomas Jefferson, recommended that young men take up the gun as a sport.

Bud said...

Of course he did. Cuz he wanted the colonists to rise up and defeat the British. That is the problem with the 2nd amendment freaks. The founding fathers wanted the populace to be armed to gain independence. Not to shoot deer and turkey for fun.

Bud said...

The sport of shooting innocent animals for fun really disgusts me. Food or security a different matter.

Bunkerman said...

Uh, Bud, "F". He said that well after we had won the revolution.

"In the same 1785 letter to nephew Peter Carr (who was also Jefferson’s ward), Jefferson advised the fifteen-year-old about building character through the shooting sports: 'A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore by the constant companion of your walks.' "

Similar recommendations were made for college students in 1818.

You should join the NRA. There magazines have lots of good historical research. ;-)

Well, I don't hunt. It bothers me, too.

Bunkerman said...

The 2nd Amendment was to prevent tyranny in the United States by oppressive govenments if such arose. I guess it worked and is still working.

There are examples of citizens routing corrupt county sheriffs, by the way. And the first acts of bigoted southern states, after Federal troops left after the civil war, was to disarm the blacks.

Bunkerman said...

Forces of light win again. Perma-bears suffering in purgatory.

Bud said...

Oops. I missed( or forgot) that in my many many readings of Jefferson's writings. Hmmmmmmm...I wonder what he would have thought of your gun club then.
