Can anyone tell me why oh why is the US involved in Kosovo? or Bosnia? of Serbia?
....... waiting ..... waiting ....... waiting ............ GONG!
The Europeans got the US to do their business, pacifying Bosnia and forcing Serbia's Milosevic to step down and to let Kosovo go. Because European nations are too CHEAP to pay for their own military. All the Kosovo-Bosnia-Serbia civil war mess is a EUROPEAN PROBLEM!
The US has absolutely zero interests there. Zippo. Nada. NONE!
Serbia-Bosnia-Kosovo is even a NEGATIVE for the US. It created serious problems with Russia. Bombing a Slavic nation to force Serbia to relent really shocked the Russians [and Ukrainians, I know from personal contact]. THAT was a huge example of the US acting like to be a bully, BUT the Europeans wanted the US to do it. That effort was initiated by EUROPE [maybe western Europe] because they feared a war in the Balkans.
In Bosnia, Europe needed US military power to stop the civil war there among Bosnian Muslims, Serbs & Croats. I remember when the US 1st Armored Division deployed there from Germany in the 1990s. Western Europe just didn't have the military power to DO what they wanted. So they got the US involved. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
And US troops are STILL in Bosnia and Kosovo. And a person from Kosovo was one of the terroists planning the Fort Dix attack in New Jersey. And in the news TODAY Bush & Putin were mentioned discussing Kosovo, and Russia has interests there. And the EU is still wanting the US to do its business. So its still hurting US-Russia relations. Thanks EUROPE.
If Europe wants to act like a major power, they need to spend some money on their own military and train some soldiers to fight. Otherwise, they'll always have to run to the US for help.
The US should just leave Kosovo & Bosnia and let the Europeans handle their own problems.
PS: Created after WW I by the Versailles Treaty, "Yugoslavia" meant a nation of the south Slavs. That differentiated them from the northern Slavic nations in Europe like Poland and Czechoslovakia [now split into the Czech Republic & Slovakia]; Hungary & Hungarian peoples separate the two groups of Slavs since the 9th century Hungarian invasion of central Europe. Yugoslavia was an artificial amalgamation of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, and Macedonia. But Kosovo was ethnically Albanian and the other Slavic peoples varied greatly. The alphabets, languages, and religions were different. A mess. Sort of reminiscent of ... IRAQ, another artificial, post WW I amalgamation of inhomogeneous peoples.
PPS: Interestingly, the Bosnian mess was sort of a village-village or county-county level civil war for awhile. But massive military power forced them to stop. I wonder if that's a lesson for Iraq? I'm not sure BUT it might be.

I thought West Germany's( Germany) constitution prohibited its soldiers from going overseas ( similar to Japan as part of their WWII surrender agreement). At the very least I know they were (are) not allowed to launch offensive actions against other Europeans. And of course we did not want the former communist bloc countries armed forces on the attack again in Eurpoe. So basically the only countries capable of controlling Milosevic were UK and France.
Why were we involved? I believe one of the lessons of the holocaust was that we will never again allow a genocide or ethnic cleansing to occur in Eurpoe. The world was late for the 6million plus Jews that got slaughtered......we don't want to be late again.
Hmmm. yes, UK & France. That should have been enough. But Spain, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Norway are in NATO, too. And then there's those big mouths in Sweden that like to pontificate about everything. And why didn't Turkey help the Muslims there?
By the way, German troops can go overseas under NATO - they are in Afghanistan.
It was, and is, still Europe's problem.
so mrs clinton did not read a 90 page, classified National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq, before voting yes on the invasion.
is that the kind of president we need? didnt even bother to read the cliff notes before sending our boys and girls over to iraq, for no reason.
how was south beach u ask? lets see, 1 best friend dead to me, forever. police, home within 24 hours.
man the more people i meet the better i like dogs.
long story short. sat nite (after a really bad 24 hour vibe, with matts new flavor of the month) (by the way hung out with dooz, friday nite. he is a real friend and it was the first time i ever met him face to face. he is a great guy!) we r in a nice restaurant getting ready to eat. my best friend goes to the bathroom, after informing his "boy" wud join us for dinner and its winter time (like i cud care less). so cindy, his girl, and myself waited, while matt goes into the bathroom. cindy says to flavor of the month, u and matt seem really gud together. she retorts there is only 1 thing that cud break us up, and that is his addiction to cocaine.
so, i thought id being my best friend a solid by going to the bathroom and suggesting not to have his dealer show up at dinner to drop off about 1k worth of cocaine (apparently thats what he goes through a week, WTF?). so in the bathroom matt freaks out. "ive known this chix 4 weeek and ive known cocaine for 20 yrs. if i have to pick i pick cocaine (nice).
so he goes back out, pulls the girl aside and starts to whisper. ive known matt 30 yrs, when he is whispering he is lying. so i strolled by with cindy and there it was and we both heard it. "but baby, mark has been sweating for 2 weeks to get this for him"
OMG, i lost it. he threatened to kill me, called cindy a nigger and left. he got super ugly after that, back at his condo. i cudnt get my bags from security unless i left 500 bucks, for god knows what. so i called the cops, and suddenly i didnt owe any money.
he completely embarrsed me in front of dooz. i didnt even know matt and flave were doing it friday nite until sat. i have gud mind to call matts boss at RHI and tell him how i introduced matt to a potentially great connection and he was so whacked out of his mind he didnt eat or shut up the entire dinner.
one thing i know how to do is hold a grude. this was my best friend, best man at my wedding and he flipped for a women i guarantee u he aint with in a few months, and the lies were just jaw dropping.
i thought my ex best friend in philly was going down hill fast. not until this weekend. ive never seen a guy splat so fast. hes done. he wont see 40. not if u go out 6 nites a week, drink litterally 40 grey gooses with white powder all nite. i wonder how his liver is looking? hes been living like that for now 20 yrs
:-( times 1000
Gee, that's sad, Mern. We had a very good friend have a heart attack in front of us & die over 20 years ago. The cocaine use over the years destroyed his heart. Sort of like Len Bias. The guy was about 40. Horrible.
Frankly, the guy was a real a*****e for doing dealing like that around you. If anything went badly, you'd be in real trouble. Cops don't always discriminate between the guilty & innocent parties.
Mern does any of what happened really surprise you? You've been around enough guys who used to know they can totally take over one's actions.
Booze addiction kills a lot of young people, too. A good friend from college died at about 45 from liquor - he destroyed his liver. He couldn't control it. That was really sad, too. He wiped out a good job, income, and lost everything & was stealing at the end [from me, who was helping him]. That really sucked, finding him dead in his apartment on a visit.
I don't see why it's OK to be the "world's policeman" when the Europeans like it & it's in their interest, but not when solving the problem is more in US interests.
i dont bud, i "walk the line" for sure. im not delusional though. i just cant see how u bag a 30 yr friendship over a girl u have known 4 weeks.
Dooz was hilarious, tried to drag us to a strip club at 3am. man we aint at this italian restaurant, the crab ravioli was pure heaven.
miami seems fun, ive just going there to visit the wrong the person. everytime with him, its drama
