On my 100 year wall chart, this move looks like a breakout from a long, seven year base. Past breakouts from similar long bases led to long-term bull markets. Examples are 1924, 1950 and 1982. This pre-holiday week might be quiet.
Long & strong - 150+% long in the Alpha Fund since early March. "Don't Fight the Tape"
PS: Bubblevison & Barron's had pieces about the dearth of dividends. Why is easy: executive greed. They have stock options & don't get any pump from the dividend. Buybacks pump the option value. More hogs at the trough.
PPS: Bubble vision is doing a, "Where were you in 1977 when Star Wars came out?", segment. Hmmm. I was a graduate student doing atomic physics calculations for my Ph. D. and playing rugby. Many moons ago.

LOL 100 year chart. Lookin at my positions, I rarely hold a stock a month. The bulk of my profits come from stocks I ...uh....'flip' in 3-10 days.
Careful with the quotes Bunkerman. Isn't there also one about May and going away?
Absolutely nothing wrong with executives decidings buybacks are the right strategic option for their company. I read that article too. The goal is to increase shareholder value. If they make bad decisions the stock price will fall. That's how a free market works.
Roflmao, deciding "for their company" lolololol
I always had a hard time reconciling the "Sell in May & go Away" one with the "Summer Rally" one. I know the seasonals favor Oct-Apr over May-Sept. But with so much computerized trading/investing, I wonder if the cause for those seasonals is now gone.
82% premium in AQNT and all cash, this is much different than 99-00. i noticed gas went up 21 cents a gallon from friday nite to saturday. looking at crack spreads premium (now 3.41999) shud hit 4, maybe this weekend.
i also took a peal at the electricity bill at the printing press in DC. they been printing money like its late 99. now if the fed is just smart enuff to cut rates before inflation really get out of control, that shud just be perfect.
the CPI is 2.8% and im 6'5 weigh 220 and can run a 4.4, 40.

OMG, triple bars man. Bud if u didnt go, shame on u. i found the first set most interesting, new tunes, but roger had the show well thought out. it was simply the most amazing visual show ive ever seen.
we got to our seats and there was a huge picture behind the stage. the pic was of a 1950ish style entertainment room. bottle of whiskey, ash tray, old radio with a old fighter plane on top of the radio. at exactly 750 a hand turned on the radio, poured himself a drink and lit up a cigarette (the song was jonny b good).
then in the flesh started playing and a rather spry 63 yr roger watter came onto the stage almost exactly like bob geldof in the movie "the wall". he was raising his arms, crossed. the big hammers were marching in the back round, it was totally amazing.
mother was amazing, i think we might be related or something. ive loved that song since i was 16.
u can see the other classics from the first set, all well played, not much jamming but well played. then came the highlite of my nite, a new song called "leaving Beruit"
man roger has some onions performing that song in the south. i was absolutely rofl! on the screen the song was played out in cartoon format and the lyrics were readable. the line that got the crowd really going (boos and cheers) was something like "American is the best in the word. they have freedom of speech, long winding roads, big spralling malls, dont let the christian F it up for us all"
then the pig came out and i swear to god on the message on the pig was "bush must die" LOL
i thought bud hated bush.
pretty obvious why he played "bring the boys back home"
id go see that again, even though, its the same set list everynite.
was it one of the 10 best shows ive ever seen. yeah probably.
between the songs, the visuals and constant fireworks, it really was a something. there were people who left after the first set. i think i saw Rev, espo, rush limbaugh and few others in that 28% of america that thinks bush is gud president.
during that leaving beruit song the screen was showing world leaders who he despises. hitler, mussolini, bin laden, saddamn, tony blair, bush and reagan. (no nixon but reagan?) i cant agree with that one, but he got people fired up.
and finally bud i watched that sopranos scene again. first part its watters singing. 2nd part is gilmour. i cant for the life of me figure out why they did that, but they did.
time to hit the books. hit hard guys!
Wow, mern, you sure know how to have fun.
All time s and p closing hi of 1527 is here. Wow. The trend is your friend.
No Mern. I knew it was a very familiar voice. It is......Van Morrison with Roger Waters from 1990 at berlin wall. http://www.amazon.com/Van-Morrison-At-Movies-Soundtrack/dp/B000KQF748/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9196598-0701510?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1179760220&sr=8-1
ya, and cindy won the trip to france. applying for my first passport. ive only been to canada, jamaica, the bahamas, and costa rica.
amsterdamn here i come!
ive got a canadian flag for my back pack already
what a world, eh? we saved europe and they hate us. nice job, Dubya!
ok that makes sense, bud. definitely 2 different voices.
u shud have gone to the lauderdale show. u wud have been LOL for hours.
tonite in GA they better watch out. i cud see some right winger trying to snipe him. im sure the DC show will be hilarious
May 18, 2007, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and May 19, 2007, in Tampa, Florida: One side: "Habeous Corpus Matters (Kafka rules)". On the other, "Religion Divides Us All" (Under that says "Is that Democracy?") and "Tony Blair, good riddance!" On the Bottom, "Free At Last", The rear, "Impeach Bush Now". At the Tampa show, the lines got stuck around a post holding a video screen, where the pig remained hanging until after the show.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Mern...what a set list! I didn't go. And i am so pissed at myself.
I don't really care if Europeans dislike the US. They always do until they need the US or want to move here.
I'd like to see Americans stop wanting to be loved by them, though. That gets the US into lots of trouble - listening to Europeans. Maybe we should if they can go 100 years without a major internal war or revolution. Hmm, counting Yugoslavia, I guess Europe has about 93 years to go before we should respect their views.
AMSC has positive news and is at new high. They got a contract to developing a new power grid for NYC. It's a long term holding of the Alpha Fund.
I suppose I'm paranoid, but I guess the beefer bears will hit hard sometime today to try to set up a "key reversal" on the futures. Those don't really work for stocks, but I think the beefer bears will try to create a technical sell signal.
Anyway, one should be buying only dips. We need two consecutive daily closes over the S&P high to wash out the virtual sellers & buyers.
just hoping not to get kidnapped in paris :-)
Is gentleness too much for us
Should gentleness be filed along with empathy
We feel for someone else's child
Every time a smart bomb does its sums and gets it wrong
Someone else's child dies and equities in defence rise
America, America, please hear us when we call
You got hip-hop, be-bop, hustle and bustle
You got Atticus Finch
You got Jane Russell
You got freedom of speech
You got great beaches, wildernesses and malls
Don't let the might, the Christian right, fuck it all up
For you and the rest of the world
Are these the people that we should bomb
Are we so sure they mean us harm
Is this our pleasure, punishment or crime
Is this a mountain that we really want to climb
The road is hard, hard and long
Put down that two by four
This man would never turn you from his door
Oh George! Oh George!
That Texas education must have fucked you up when you were very small
LOL!!!!!!!
and he printed those lyrics out on the big screen. it created quite a stir. definitely the highlite of the nite
I absolutely care about our relations with our European allies. If there is one thing we have learned during the Bush administration it is in our national interest to have good relations with France, Germany, etc.... The go-it-alone cowboy unilateral view of the world has been a disaster for the US. A democratic president ( and Congress) will change that.
Bush created this disaster by using inadequate force & expecting the Iraqis to love the US as "liberators". He should have crushed any opposition instantly & not let it fester & grow like he did.
Euro-ideas were just appeasement - they wanted to make money selling Saddam nuclear power & arms. They won't stop selling to Iran either.
Euro-softness got W's father to stop & let Saddam stay in power 15 years ago.
Britain and some of the eastern European countries are the only US "allies" in Europe. The others are competitors who push policies to weaken the US.
France hasn't been a real US "ally" since World War I.
Germany ... nope.
Spain was once, then got hit by the terrorists & turned tail.
Scandanavia - laughable.
Italy ? Nope. Italy is trying to convict US soldiers & protect terrorists. Good politics, I guess domestically.
Turkey ... hurt US badly against Iraq.
Only Britain, Poland, Czech, and some others came through when US needed help. The rest just want us when they need help. That's not the actions of an ally.
I do not want to get into the Iraq war right now.......but the bottom line is....are we the world police? Let Saddam rule for 100years....as long as he doesn't bother us...who cares? Is it the job of the US taxpayer and GI to police the world? Use economic sanctioons etc.....to punish countries.......but war?
Most of those so-called allies won't even let their "soldiers" fight known terrorists in Afghanistan, who provided a base for the US to be attacked. What a joke & one way street!
Lolololol sanctions. The Europeans love those, so our companies obey them & theirs make extra money breaking them.
roflmao.
War works against bad guys if you do it right.
Germany ...nope? Are you kidding? West Germany has been the staunchest US ally since WW2. ANs also after reunification. George W ruined that reltionship as soon as he came into office. Terrible.
War works against bad guys if you do it right.
so is bush the bad guy and bin laden the one "doing it right"?
id say bin laden has played bush like a fiddle. iraq is the exact train wreck al queda wanted.
tick tock, time to make glass yet?
Guys who think like Bunkerman are a disaster for US national interests and our standing in the world. The "we are going to bomb you if you don't agree with us" doesn't work. The US went it alone ( lmaoooo- coalition) on Iraq and has turned into a disaster. Actually I would love for the GOP to let Bunkerman's foreign policy thinking to be in front of the electorate next fall. It will be a democratic landslide!!!!!!! Oh please RNC ...let the Bunkerman write your nominee's acceptance speech. Please!!!!!!
Hmmm. West Germany wanted to roll over against the Soviets in 1982 re the Pershing missles that helped bring in Gorbachev by scaring the crap out of the Politbro.
Some "stanch allY"
Now they want US to give up on missile defense against Iran. Some "staunch ally".
Ugh Mern.......time to make glass? Disgusting. Listening to Bunkerman has brainwashed you. Too bad.
Well, I support McCain. At least he knows how to fight & wants to win.
Dems will elect some Carter type, create another giant mess like he did & maybe a new Reagan will come along. That's all I can hope for.
That's one reason Dems might lose, Bud. If they spend so much time loving the Europeans & taking European's side on most issues, voters might pick someone who will take the US side.
Agreed. But the R's will also lose if they promise more wars if you elect us. The US electorate is tired of war ( Iraq) and want the nations leaders to try diplomacy and workin with our allies . At least that is my read.
Actually, I think the Americans would be happier to WIN the war, fast. We've been in Iraq longer than it took to defeat Japan & Germany.
They are sick of W's no-win, "they love us" and "let's all just get along" strategy that costs our soldiers' lives. That's definitely the sentiment in Ohio where they recruit many soldiers - places like my hometown.
Nice move in the grains today - the "long, hot, summer" is shaping up :-))
glass is inevitable. just too many nukes and idiots alive. its gonna happen and how far the dominoes fall will be sad to watch
Volume is about the same as Thursday, well below Friday on the NYSE. That's GOOD, imho. I means institutions aren't selling & less buying power is needed to punch thru the old highs.
Agree, Mern. It's a question of "us or them". I choose them for the glass.
Inevitable Mern. Really? Then why don't you live in a bunker. I guess I'm the only optimist on this blog.
The US make nukes 62 years ago with no computers. One has to be delusional to think the bad guys won't be able to build them. We should just believe them when they threaten us & hit them first.
John Roque just said nat gas goin to $10. (on bubblevision)
Thanks, I missed that - was playing with a dog.
I have lots of CHK. Maybe I should start watching the commodity & storage data - had stopped awhile. COP has a lot of nat gas, too.
i just hope a nuke lands on my house. even warren buffett has said its gonna happen in the next 45 yrs almost for sure.
u got nukes and u got freaks armed with thier religious mantras. this isnt the cold war which was about political ideology. this is about religion, so there is no level at where rationality will win out.
bush is a freak. extremists muslims r freaks. cheney is a freak.
Come on Mern. Bunkerman is paranoid enough. Keep talkin like that and he gonna go underground for good.
Hmmm. Guess I need to start posting the nuclear war survival tips for you pessimists. Bunkerman, a true optimist. ;-)
Lmaoooooo...optimist. Then why is youe home surrounded by barbed wire? And why all the ammo? Lololol
Because I'm optimistic about surviving. I'm not waiting to get hit. I do something about it & know I can survive. True optimism. Not apathy. :-))
ya id rather die than bunkerdown.
im lazy
I see the bears attacked. No surprise. Nothing has changed.
Gotta take the dogs for a walk. Good luck.
