The new law "protecting" private property in Red China might be a significant development. Or it might not be. Time will tell. I understand that it still leaves legal ownership of land with the government. I'll have to read up on the lease rights that it conveys.
Fundamental philosophical change can take a generation and another generation to become solidly entrenched. [btw, a generation is about 20-25 years] The principal problem with completely relying on this "law" is that Red China is still a military dictatorship at its core. The Central Military Commission still has absolute power. Until a system of checks & balances develops, one must be wary.
But the trend is good, no doubt.

great article on my boy, bobby wier, from the festival express.
mad magazine, lol. i really believe south park does the best job of tackling the earths most complicated quagmires, with humor and common sense.
the only problem for honorable people like u, bunkerman, is, the potty humor.
if the market splats after the open, then bud, imho, wud have to agree with your beefer thesis.
i see greenspan learned how to speak english since leaving the govt. ROFL
With Ratdog, and much as he and the Dead's Jerry Garcia learned, great bands don't become great bands overnight.
"It's been a slow process," Weir said by phone Monday afternoon from Concord, N.H. "It takes a long time to learn the telepathic way to learn the nuances of the components of a band. The last few years, we've been spitting fire."
Over time, Ratdog's members have learned an unspoken musical language that blooms onstage, Weir said. "Tiny movements or a flick of a finger between themselves can say much more than words can.
"You develop it over the years," he said. "I can play a lick on the guitar onstage, and they'll know what I'm talking about." That's exactly what Weir had with Garcia.
And also as with the Dead, there are occasional shows and moments onstage that exceed greatness, Weir said.
"It does happen with some regularity. Over a period of time I'll feel weightless. It's like my mind has become elastic. At that point, I'm in a total hallucinogenic state. That happened a lot with the Dead, and it does now with Ratdog."
some gud clicks, since the link dont work
uh, mern, I love a good scatalogical joke. :-)
ok the newest episode which will be on comedy central all weekend was about cartmen (one of the main characters) pulling a prank a the towns tool (butters). while butters was sleeping cartmen took a pic of himself giving butters a blow jobs, with his thumbs in the air.
he went to the bus stop, told his friends (lol) telling everyone how gay butters was. they were dude that makes u gay. upon cartmens revalation, he asks what will offset his gay behavior. so they told him butters had to give him a blow job.
it goes down hill from there, butters dad (who is gay) catches butters give cartmen a blow job. sends butters to bible thumpin camp for gay boys. thier mantra is "pray the gay away"
there r constant suidcides at the camp, while butters has no idea y he is there.
it spirals down hill from there and ends with a splat of biblical porportions. i literally fell off my coach lol, at the last scene
I'm going to have to check this show out. I'll Tivo a few episodes. :-)
beefers get us to 1400 and then we die? that is too easy right?
I agree this is a great step forward. However I wonder if the motivation for it is to protect the ill-gotten gains from corruption. The fact that the communist party did this without any news media discussion sounds fishy. In any event Mao's China is dying and the booming Chinese middle class is a threat to the old-line communists in the party. Interesting article in the Nytimes on this today. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/16/world/asia/16china.html?hp
Uh mern......I'm not sure Bunkerman even knows what Ratdog is. He probably thinks it's the offspring of a wolf and a squirrel in his woods.
You could be right, Bud. I hope they are as zealous in protecting the poor farmer's land as the wealth person's condo. Many farmers' land has been taken there in the past few years for "redevelopment".
Unfortunately, it was similar to the Gang of Five on the US Supreme Court permitting the taking of homes in the US. :-(
"ratdog" hmmmm - is that a "rat terrier" ?
We just rescued one. Her name is "Ava" and she's working out very well. ;-)
